VW Issues Recall for Electrical Issue

Volkswagen announced on Friday that it's recalling cars that could roll away due to an electrical issue.

Aug. 23, 2019—Volkswagen announced on Friday that it is recalling 679,000 cars sold since 2011, according to a report by Reuters.

The automaker is recalling the vehicles because they could roll away due to an electrical issue. According to the report, drivers could remove the key after stopping without placing the car in park, which increases the risk the vehicle could roll away.

VW said a build up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts is to blame. As a result, dealers will install an additional switch and circuit board and disable a micro switch.
