REPAIR Act Passes House Subcommittee Session

The House Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce has submitted the REPAIR Act to the House Energy and Commerce Committee for future consideration.

The United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce, of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has submitted the REPAIR Act to the full committee for future consideration, according to a press release.

Following a discussion held this past Thursday during a markup session on HR 906–commonly referred to as the REPAIR Act–the legislation unanimously passed the Subcommittee and will move forward to be reviewed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The session saw Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA) arguing that the REPAIR Act would preserve competition in the car repair market, and Subcommittee Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) added that the bill promotes consumer choice.

The markup session follows two prior congressional hearings on the legislation, as well as a White House roundtable that discussed how consumer choice and the automotive repair market are impacted by the REPAIR Act.

“We cannot allow the repair industry to be vertically integrated at the expense of American jobs and the expense of losing the right to repair your own car,” said REPAIR Act Lead Sponsor, Rep. Neal Dunn (R-FL). “Now, as technology continues to evolve faster than consumer protection laws, it’s time for an update. I believe the REPAIR Act is the proper response to a vertically integrated repair industry.”
