The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the Genesis Electrified GV70, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Lexus RZ with Top Safety Pick+ awards, according to a press release.
In order to earn a Top Safety Pick+ in 2023, vehicles must display good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests.
Additionally, acceptable or good headlights must be standard in all trims and a front crash prevention system with advanced or superior ratings in daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations must be available.
All three of the 2023 model-year EVs met the requirements for the Top Safety Pick+ award. The Electrified GV70, a midsize luxury SUV, earned advanced ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations and had good-rated headlights in all trims.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6, a midsize car, and the Lexux RZ, a small SUV, earned superior ratings in the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations and were found to have standard acceptable-rated headlights.
“To be environmentally friendly, our vehicles and our cities also need to be pedestrian-friendly,” said IIHS President David Harkey. “All three of these vehicles have standard front crash prevention systems designed to protect pedestrians both during the day and at night, when most fatal pedestrian crashes happen.”
