Tesla Dominates 2023 American-Made Index

Tesla has taken the top four spots in Cars.com’s 2023 American-Made Index, as well as being the only American brand listed in the top ten, Electrek reports.

This year’s American-Made Index surveyed 388 vehicles made in the U.S., with only 100 of them making it onto the list. Coming in first place was Tesla Model Y, followed by Model 3, Model X, and Model S.

Tesla’s vertical integration approach is what has resulted in most of its materials being sourced domestically, with the Texas-based automaker producing many parts itself or from other places in the U.S. and manufacturing its vehicles in North America.

Tesla is also the only American brand in the top ten, with other spots being taken by Japanese brands Acura and Honda and the German Volkswagen ID.4.

The ID.4 is not only Volkswagen’s debut to the Index’s top ten, but also brings the total of electric vehicles in the list to five alongside the four Tesla models.
