Ford Motor has selected Austin, Texas, as the third city where it plans to launch autonomous commercial vehicles by 2021.
September 27, 2019—Ford Motor Company has selected Austin, Texas to become the third city to test and launch its autonomous commercial vehicles, reports CNBC.
According to the CEO of the autonomous vehicle program, Sherif Marakby, they chose Austin because of the city’s willingness to work with the company as well as its growing downtown population with increased congestion.
Ford and Argo AI will begin mapping the city in mid-November, which will be followed by data validation, then testing the Ford Fusion Hybrid autonomous vehicles early next year.
The company previously announced Miami and Washington, D.C. as the other two launch markets. The companies are also testing the vehicles in Detroit, Pittsburgh and Palo Alto, Calif.
