Nov. 6, 2019—There are 210 million licensed drivers in the U.S., and auto insurance is required in 48 states. Of the top 12 most affordable auto insurance companies considered in ValuePenguin’s most recent study, the company found five auto insurers with the most satisfied customers of a recent claim.

According to the report, the insurance company that penalizes drivers the least after an accident was State Farm. The rates after an accident increased by 19%, from $1,737 to $2,075.  It was the smallest rate increase the study revealed of any company including Erie, Travelers, Auto-Owners and Nationwide.

Auto-Owners insurance made the top of the list for the best car insurance in handling claims. Customers of Auto-Owners were the most satisfied with the claims process.

Approximately 86 percent of customers were satisfied with American Family, followed by 78 percent satisfied with USAA, 74 percent with Progressive and 73 percent with State Farm.
