When it comes to repairs involving Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), many vehicles require a dynamic calibration or a static calibration followed by dynamic calibration. What’s more, these procedures are not interchangeable and require a trained professional who follows OEM repair procedures.

To help illuminate the differences, I-CAR’s technical subject matter experts have prepared an infographic to help the inter-industry understand the differences between dynamic and static calibrations.

“The need for ADAS-specific technical skills and knowledge cannot be overstated and aligns with the explosive growth of highly sophisticated ADAS-equipped vehicles on the roads today, only deepening the drive for collision repair professionals to be fully prepared to perform complete, safe and quality repairs on behalf of the consumer,” explained Bud Center, I-CAR director, technical products and curriculum.

I-CAR announced the development of an optional ADAS Technician role in May, designed to “help close the knowledge and skills gap for shops while bolstering and strengthening technical proficiency of talent, which in turn allows organizations to retain – versus subletting – ADAS repair work,” Center said. “Shops that make a commitment to ADAS training will be significantly more prepared to lead repair work in their local markets.”
