John “Junior” Blackmar, owner of Triple A Tire Service in Kissimmee, Fla., has won $500 in Ken-Tool’s nationwide video competition.

The monthly contest, which began in June, encourages users of the company’s products “to flaunt their tire-changing and mechanical skills” by recording themselves in a short demonstration video.

Blackmar’s winning entry included a portrayal of a roadside service call.

“We’re mainly mobile, and we specialize in semis and agricultural equipment because we have a lot of citrus groves in the area,” Blackmar tells Motor Age. Recreational vehicles and varied industrial accounts are also served on a 24-hour basis.

Blackmar established the business in 2008 after working at several commercial tire shops since 1997.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Blackmar says of his video victory. “It’s good to know Ken-Tool is recognizing people out in the field.”

Given Blackmar’s active presence on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube – “the little guys have to take advantage of the Internet” – word was quick to spread. “I have some friends who have seen it, and they’re pretty excited; they think it’s pretty cool,” he reports.

“We decided to start the ‘Quest for the Best’ contest because we offer hundreds of unique tire-changing and automotive tools, and most of the products have a multitude of applications,” explains Rock Tyson, Ken-Tool’s vice president of sales and marketing.

“We wanted a way to showcase this versatility, but we wanted it to come from real people: From Ken-Tool end-users,” Tyson adds. “I was really impressed by the variety of tools Junior uses while on the job and also by his mechanical skills.”
