A key component of Nutek’s just-launched environmentally friendly Flat Tire Survival Kit for motorists has claimed a prestigious prize for the design of its container.

Brandpackaging magazine is saluting the non-slippery elements of the aluminum can for Nutek’s biodegradable Bolt Off stubborn-nut remover. It is one of 60 elite global container designs so honored.

“We were astonished that no one ever thought of selecting a package that met the needs of the lubricant market by providing a superior nozzle and ‘no slip grip’ design,” says Nutek CEO Cathy Horton, noting that end users are referring to the can as the “Silver Bullet.”

Based in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the firm’s new Flat Tire Survival Kit comes in a case designed for easy storage in the glove compartment or trunk, according to Horton.

The unit includes:

• Bolt Off – an aerosol spray to loosen rusted nuts and bolts while being kind to the environment. It is formulated using American-grown soy beans.

• Simply Soy Wipe – a biodegradable wet wipe that cleans and removes rust along with lubricating and protecting parts long after application.

• Grime Off Wipe – a biodegradable wet wipe for cleaning tools, hub caps and other items afflicted with caked-on grit, dirt and grease.

• Grime Off – a fresh-smelling biodegradable wet wipe for cleaning hands.

• Tire Pressure Gauge – “The correct tire pressure is critical for fuel efficiency, tire wear and safety,” says Horton. “After you put on your spare, check the pressure to make certain you are safe to get back on the road.”

Elements of the company’s product line are now being stocked by Kroger’s, billed as “the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer.” The chain includes City Market, Dillons, Jay C, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith’s. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, it also operates 773 convenience stores and 850 supermarket fuel centers.

“Kroger has a strong commitment to the environment,” says Dave Anderson, the grocer’s category manager. “Choosing Nutek’s products for our automotive category provides consumers with a meaningful green choice above traditional products.”

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to help Kroger green their automotive category,” Horton points out. “Our products provide superior technology, shelf appeal and green benefits to Krogers’ customers.”

Nutek’s product array is also carried by Ace, Home Depot, True Value, Northern Tool and Jerry’s Home Stores.
