For the second year in a row, a Hankook-sponsored driver “was on top of the podium with a cold glass of champagne in hand” when the smoke finally cleared at the conclusion of the Super Lap Battle Finals.
More than 50 high-profile entries – including some that had been on display at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas – were competing at California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park when champion driver Davis Empringham drank from the cup of victory.
His Mitsubishi EVO 8 from Sierra Sierra Enterprises posted a winning time of 1:45.061, taking the Overall Event and Unlimited AWD titles.
“We had the Evo and Hankook gave us the grip,” says Empringham.
“This win is a testament to the determination of the Sierra Sierra crew, who put their heart and soul into creating a SuperLap car that represents what Sierra Sierra is all about,” he observes.
“Hankook Tire has been a key factor in helping us accelerate our program,” reports Sierra Sierra owner Dennis Kottke, “and the Ventus Z214 once again proved to be exactly what we needed.”
Five of the top 10 all-time fastest lap times in Super Lap Battle Time Attack history have been achieved by drivers running with the Z214, encompassing the RWD, AWD and FWD classes.
The tire features a symmetric tread while utilizing a smooth surface with two longitudinal grooves “for outstanding performance on the circuit in both dry and damp conditions,” according to the company.
