NAPA AUTO PARTS has awarded Gordon Douglas of Torrance, Calif., the NAPA Trick Truck award at the second Orange County Goodguys Rod and Custom Association Get-Together held this past weekend in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Douglas and close friends invested nine years building his 1972 GMC Suburban, which went from a collection of spare parts to an award-winning SUV worth an estimated $130,000. The truck features Mitsubishi "patriot" red paint, a 454 engine and 4L80E transmission, a GPS navigation system, CD/DVD player and an entertainment system complete with a video game system.

One of the program's judges called Douglas' Suburban "a great truck with beautiful paint that reflects the passion and friendship of those who spent so much time caring for it." Douglas credits his wife, Shari Lee, and close friends Gabe Lopez, Jeff Moorefield and Fred Rodriguez for their contributions.

NAPA Auto Parts is the Official Auto Parts Store of the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association. In addition to awarding the NAPA Trick Truck Award, arrangements have been made to feature Douglas' Suburban in an upcoming issue of Trucking Magazine.  Douglas also won a $100 gift certificate for tools from the on-site NAPA Tool and Equipment tent, plus the customary NAPA hat, t-shirt and grease towel.
