July 27, 2010

July 27, 2010—Select Chevrolet dealers began taking special orders for the new 2011 Volt, which will be priced starting at $41,000.

The new Chevrolet Volt is the first electric, extended-range capable vehicle and is run on a lithium-ion battery, according to a General Motors (GM) press release_notes. Purchasers of the energy efficient Volt will also be eligible for up to a $7,500 federal tax credit, as well as other local and state credits.

"The Chevrolet Volt will be the best vehicle in its class ... because it's in a class by itself," said Joel Ewanick, vice president of U.S. marketing for GM, which made the announcement Tuesday at the Plug-In 2010 conference. "The Volt will be packed with premium content and innovation, standard."

The first Volts can be ordered in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Texas, Michigan, California and Washington, D.C. For more information on the new Volt, go to getmyvolt.com.
