Rains, who has managed to grow Center City Collision’s sales 10-fold in the last decade, said the business maximized its capacity at its two facilities and it was time to expand elsewhere.
“I realized that in terms of market share, we were getting about as much as we could handle in that market, so that drove me to start looking at some of the other markets and I began talking to some of our vendors and told them to be on the lookout for a very specific shop,” Rains said. “One surfaced fairly quickly and here we are.”
Precision Frame & Body, which opened its current location in 1983, is 21,000 square feet and employs 14 counting Rains. The shop, about a 25 minute drive from Center City Collision, is a community stalwart and will retain its name and staff—including the previous owners—for the time being. Rains says the operation will be assessed in six months and changes could be made at that time.
Between Rains, his sister and his father, the family now owns and operates four collision repair businesses in Ohio (Gary Rains Collision and Valley Collision are the other two).
