CAPA: Automaker Recalls Surpass Sales

May 23, 2014

May 23, 2014—More than 21 million vehicles have been recalled by automakers in the past five months, according to a press release by the Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA).

The number of recalls surpass the total number of vehicle sold, the CAPA said, something the organization feels should challenge the automotive aftermarket to reconsider prevailing notions about parts.

“As the car makers roll to a record-breaking number of recalls, they continue to spend millions of dollars touting the fact that their expensive, car company brand crash parts are the only ones consumers can rely on,” said Jack Gillis, executive director of the Certified Automotive Association.

According to CAPA data, this is the fifth straight year that recalls surpass sales.
