In 2019, Intertek is taking collision repair professionals behind the scenes and explaining CAPA’s testing and certification programs. In a new video series, Stacy Bartnik, Intertek’s aftermarket industry relations manager for the CAPA program, provides detailed examples of the tests and steps in the process.
For example, in the video CAPA Certification: Performance Testing, Bartnik shows clips of CAPA performing full vehicle crash testing at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as it developed the CAPA 501 bumper standard.
“This testing helped to determine the appropriate tolerances for bumper part crash testing within the CAPA Standard,” Bartnik explains.
Additionally, the video describes the yield and tensile testing that is required on metal and plastic parts, along with what participating manufacturers need to complete when it comes to testing both OE and aftermarket parts and the required results.
Bartnik also walks viewers through electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, which she says ensures an aftermarket part’s electromagnetic energy emissions will not interfere with normal vehicle operations.
“Every vehicle has some type of electric system, and the more electronic systems in the vehicle, the higher the risk for electromagnetic interference,” she notes.
