AAIA postpones Legislative Summit

The Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) has determined to postpone The 2011 Aftermarket Legislative Summit, which was slated to take place June 20 and 21.

AAIA reports that he decision to postpone was made primarily based on a crowded congressional and aftermarket calendar.

"Discussions with Congressional offices in the course of exploring meetings with members, has been loud and clear that legislators are totally focused on debating and resolving the nation’s skyrocketing deficit and the battle over raising the debt ceiling," a statement issued by AAIA read. "In light of this, the aftermarket would have faced an uphill battle in effectively communicating its agenda to elected officials during the Summit."

Further rationale for postponing the Summit, according to AAIA, is that when Congress announced in December that it was revising its schedule to allow for one week in-district work periods every month, it bumped the Legislative Summit scheduled on one of those weeks into June and the beginning of the summer vacation season. The move also placed the Summit in conflict with several other industry events. Both of these factors made attendance challenging for many AIAA members.

AAIA will announce new dates for the summit in the near future.
