The preliminary agenda for the upcoming National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) General Meeting is currently available on the NASTF Web site (www.nastf.org). Regular NASTF updates and committee briefs will be presented first, followed by a panel on Tool Manufacturer Future Needs.

The NASTF meeting will take place April 20 at 1:30 pm in Grand Salon IX-X of the Meritage Resort, 875 Bordeaux Way, Napa, Calif.. The meeting is being held in conjunction with ETI's ToolTech.

Organizers will assemble a panel of experts representing some of the ETI vertical groups to explain to the NASTF general membership what kinds of information tool and equipment manufacturers are going to require from the OEMs in the future. It is part of an effort to get carmakers to think about aftermarket needs as part of their vehicle design process, organizers say, asking what sort of things will aftermarket tool manufacturers need from the OEMs in future years in order to build reliable, safe products that allow technicians to perform the whole repair without reliance on new car dealers?

The meeting will take place in conjunction with the Equipment and Tool Institute’s ToolTech. “The Spring meeting is usually held in cooperation with the Society of Automotive Engineers World Congress in Detroit, Michigan,” says Charlie Gorman, NASTF chairman. “However, this year the SAE could not accommodate the NASTF meeting, so the leadership voted to move the meeting location to coincide with ToolTech.”
