Ford and Microsoft are teaming up to implement Microsoft Hohm – a platform that will help future owners of Ford’s electric vehicles recharge more effectively and affordably.
Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Company president and CEO, recently made the announcement today at the New York International Auto Show.
Ford is the first automaker to integrate the Microsoft Hohm platform and allow its drivers to take control of their energy use. Using the energy management application, drivers of Ford’s electric vehicles will be able to optimize the way they recharge and better manage their home’s energy use.
When is the best time to recharge your battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicle? Microsoft Hohm will provide insight into Ford’s energy usage patterns and suggest recommendation to increase conservation.
The application will help drivers make smart decisions around the most affordable ways to consume energy with a Ford electric vehicle.
Microsoft and Ford also will work with utilities and municipalities to help develop an energy ecosystem that manages energy usage as consumer demand for electric vehicles grows.
Introducing Hohm to Ford’s electric vehicles is an integral step in Ford’s global electrification plan, which will put more efficient and affordable electric vehicles on the road while creating a positive environmental impact. The Focus Electric is expected to be the first Ford electric vehicle to use Hohm later this year.
