Delphi Corp. executives, engineers and technical experts will play a key role in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2010 World Congress, April 13 through 15 in Detroit. From active engagement on industry-issue panels to 31 technical presentations, Delphi representatives will participate in discussions on key topics including fuel efficiency, safety, electronics and emissions reduction.

“The SAE 2010 World Congress is a great place for our team to not only share their own new ideas but to also learn from colleagues in the automotive industry,” says Andrew Brown, Jr., Ph.D., Delphi executive director and chief technologist and SAE International’s 2010 president. “We are looking forward to the thoughtful debate and discussion the event brings.”

Delphi executives will participate in four panels during this year’s World Congress including:

  • For “Smart Grid Technology: Are Electric Vehicles Part of the Problem or Part of the Solution?” Jeff Owens, president, Delphi Electronics and Safety, is part of a panel that will discuss the real potential of smart electrical vehicles and how electrical grid engineers and vehicle manufacturers will implement the smart grid. This panel will take place April 13 at 10 a.m. in the FEV Powertrain Innovation Forum.
  • In “Technology Sharing in the Era of Ecollaboration,” Brown moderates a panel that will discuss various promising technologies under consideration for use in the automotive industry that were generated by outside sectors and the processes used to identify and collaborate on these technologies. This panel will take place April 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the AVL Technology Leadership Center. Additionally, as SAE president, Brown will also speak at the opening ceremony and participate in various other events during the week.
  • During “Global Designs for Different Markets – Sustainable, Safe Designs” Beth Schwarting, general director, Electronic Controls, Delphi Electronics and Safety, will participate on a panel discussion that examines various approaches of adapting global designs to different markets and regulations while at the same time maintaining a viable business case for global vehicles. This discussion will take place April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the AVL Technology Leadership Center.
  • In “Chief Purchasing Officers Panel," Sidney Johnson, Delphi’s vice president, global supply management, weighs in on a panel that will discuss the best practices in the procurement community to engage suppliers for effective commercial exchange to excel at innovation. The panel discussion will take place April 15 at noon in the FEV Powertrain Innovation Forum.

Delphi also will present 29 papers during SAE. Several papers are expected to draw high interest from Congress attendees including: Ignition Systems for Spray-Guided Stratified Combustion – (2010-01-0598); In-vehicle Networking Technology for 2010 and Beyond – (2010-01-0687); and Emission Reduction with Heated Injectors – (2010-01-1265).
