AASP-MN raises funds in Race for Education
The Alliance of Automotive Service Providers, Minnesota (AASP-MN) has raised nearly $6,000 in its 2010 fund-raising campaign to support the AASP-MN Automotive Education Fund. The majority of that money was raised at the Association’s annual Race for Automotive Education, which took place last month.
During the course of the two-night event, 100 racers tore up the track in state-of-the-art European karts, reaching speeds of nearly 40 mph. Many fans and spectators were also on hand to cheer their teams on.
Twenty teams of mechanical and collision repair shops and industry suppliers were represented.
“This event has become one of the most popular in the association,” says Judell Anderson, AASP-MN executive director. “I’m very impressed with the level of support, participation and enthusiasm that AASP-MN members devote to this event and to the cause of automotive education."
In addition to proceeds from the race, many AASP-MN members made voluntary contributions to the Automotive Education Fund with their dues payments. The majority of the money raised will go toward scholarships for automotive students enrolled in NATEF-certified mechanical and collision repair programs in Minnesota.
The Automotive Education Fund was established in 2002 to provide financial resources to support automotive students, enhance automotive programs and raise awareness of career opportunities in the automotive service industry.
Since its inception, more than $76,000 has been distributed directly to students enrolled in automotive programs through the association’s scholarship program, Lights On for Safety event and Skills USA participation.
