The new Sedona is 400 pounds lighter and has almost 50 percent more power. It also immediately earned the industry's best safety rating from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IHHS).

Combined with three-row seating, stability control, lots of airbags, more than a dozen cup holders, reasonable gas mileage and a price significantly lower than its competition, the Sedona is an excellent family hauler.

Built in South Korea, the Sedona's engine is sourced from Hyundai, and it's also used in the Kia Sorento and Amanti models. The valves are adjusted as needed by replacing lifters. Front suspension caster spec is measured to the ground, not to the body. Otherwise, maintenance on the Sedona is pretty straightforward.

Notice the maintenance schedule calls for regular cleaning of the throttle body. The procedure involves resetting the fuel trim adaptive values, and that procedure is described completely in a service bulletin. There are several service bulletins that address problems with the air conditioning system.

There are also bulletins for Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination with O2 sensor codes, ABS warning lamp illumination with communication codes or no scan tool communication (poor ground connection) and for MIL illumination with P0110, P0128, P0300 or EVAP codes (PCM programming). Two recalls have been issued to repair brake pedal switch wiring, and two more for inspection/replacement of the rear brake hoses.

This is a family vehicle, so you might see more interior and body issues than real mechanical problems.
