Based on the Toyota 4Runner/FJ Cruiser platform, this full-frame luxury truck combines first-class on-road comfort and handling with real off-road capabilities. This is due partly to the brake system, which has a hydraulic booster and a full suite of driver aids including ABS, Hill-start Assist Control, Downhill Assist Control, Active Traction Control (Traction Control with off-road software), Vehicle Stability Control and Brake Assist.
Off-road performance is also enhanced by a transmission that can be started in second gear, a center differential in the two-range transfer case that has a lock button, and adjustable rear air springs and sway bar stiffness.
The V8 engine is the same as that in other Toyota trucks. Other than having to replace the lifters for valve adjustment, most maintenance is fairly routine. The timing spec given is for checking with a scan tool; without the tool, timing is 5 to 15 degrees BTDC. With a dual air conditioning system, the refrigerant charge is 28.2 ± 1 oz (800 ± 30g). With a single A/C system, the charge is 22.9 ± 1 oz (650 ± 30g).

After completing a wheel alignment, the yaw rate sensor and steering rate sensor must be recalibrated. For more information, see the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) about zero-point calibration.

Other important TSBs describe MIL illumination with EVAP codes (leak detection pump), drivetrain noises in the rear, MIL illumination caused by a faulty seat position sensor and MIL illumination with system lean codes.

This vehicle is highly rated by its owners, and it's holding its value in the used-car market. Expect the owner to be prepared to take good care of it.
