Snap-on Diagnostics’ new Software Bundle 8.4 includes 700 new functional tests and bi-directional controls for 1992 to 2008 vehicle models, to help professional technicians expand their diagnostic capabilities for increased efficiency and productivity.

For example, Snap-on continues to develop and expand EVAP diagnostics. Evaporative emission faults can be one of the most common and hard to diagnose problems, the company says. With Software Bundle 8.4, techs save time with the new GM EVAP Service Bay Test, which is a quick pass/fail procedure that monitors the complete system.

The vehicles that support this test allow the technician to identify a failure or to verify repairs to the EVAP system through the use of an engine running test. Bundle 8.4 also includes new tests for Chrysler, Honda and Mitsubishi.

“Functional tests and bi-directional controls can be the most powerful tool a technician has for isolating problems with control modules, mechanical components and sensors, such as activating lights, windows or brake calipers,” says Bill Bruno, vice president of marketing for Snap-on Diagnostics.           .

With Bundle 8.4, techs will have body control coverage for the most popular vehicle makes, including new powerful functional tests for Nissan, Toyota and Lexus, as well as five new hybrid models, which are in addition to the hybrids already covered such as Toyota Prius, Honda Insight and Ford Escape.

New engine bi-directional controls for all 1994-2004 Ford cars and light trucks aid in quickly pinpointing problems such as idle speed, EGR, EVAP valve and many other vital controls.

In addition, new ABS brake bleed functions for 1992-2002 GM trucks, vans and SUVs are now available in Bundle 8.4. Techs can bleed the air from the system bi-directionally with their scan tool for a faster, cleaner and better way to get the job done.

“All of these added features mean quicker, more accurate diagnostics and not having to send the car down the road to another shop,” concludes Bruno.
