Students driven to future careers in the automotive industry will be offered the opportunity to receive direction in fields that will require extended skill sets and training in an ever-changing workplace at the Automotive Education Day at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).
Motor City and surrounding area school groups in grades nine through 12 and college level are invited to attend Automotive Education Day presented by State Farm Insurance at the NAIAS on Jan. 21, 2009 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cobo Center in Detroit.
The fifth annual Automotive Education Day promises to be the most exciting yet as students are invited to explore the many different career pathways available in all automotive fields through breakout sessions, lesson plans and one-on-one discussions with various human resources representatives, according to organizers.
To help relieve transportation costs, the NAIAS is offering $150 bus grants to the first 100 busloads of students that register for Automotive Education Day. The funds are being provided by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Education Foundation and Eppert Foundation.
"Automotive Education Day has been an incredible resource over these last four years, and this year is no exception" says Joe Serra, 2009 NAIAS co-chairman. "Tomorrow's automotive industry will require a highly-skilled and technically-savvy workforce. Automotive Education Day is designed to stress the importance of a good education and help these future employees find their niche."
"The response to Automotive Education Day has been nothing short of amazing," adds Serra. "We've already signed up more than 2,400 students for a fun-filled and informative day at the show. Attendees will not only take in the amazing exhibits and stunning production and concept vehicles but come away from this event with an experience that could help to shape their future."
Tickets for Automotive Education Day are $10 per student and include a lunch ticket. One adult chaperone per 10 students is required. Online registration is available at www.naias.com/aed2009.htm.
