“We want to be sure our customers are equipped with the information and products they need to profit from this growing market segment,” says Rick Widden, vice president, Ignition and Filtration for Honeywell CPG. “That’s why we’ve expanded our coverage and are continuing to educate our channel partners with sales advice and product information.”
The following is a list of tips from the FRAM team for aftermarket distributors and shops:
Be educated on the opportunity. The amount of vehicles with cabin air filter compartments is growing at a compounded rate of 23 percent each year. That’s a great opportunity for the aftermarket since several categories show flat or little growth.
Address real concerns regarding pollution. An industry study shows that 95 percent of vehicle owners are concerned about air quality inside their vehicle. The cabin air filter is one automotive component that actually has a touch point with the motorist since outside air that flows through the vehicle’s air conditioning, heating and ventilation system can expose passengers to contaminants such as road dust and pollen. The FRAM Fresh Breeze® filter removes 98 percent of 5-100 micron size pollen particles and road dust from the air passing through the filter.
Tap into the sense of smell. In our daily travels, we are affected by a number of negative odors – from local oil refineries and landfills to farms and polluted waterfronts. Most cabin air filters on the market use only carbon for odor absorption. FRAM is the only brand that uses carbon and Arm & Hammer® baking soda embedded in the media, for superior odor absorption. An additional selling advantage is that more than 97 percent of consumers are familiar with the Arm & Hammer brand.
Take advantage of visuals. In addition to tapping into our sense of smell, consumers are also interested in visuals. With colorful and educational packaging, and a great table topper for shops and retailers to use when selling the product, the FRAM brand is well poised to help the aftermarket tap into this growing category.
“The product’s messaging of providing protection and freshness should resonate with customers that may be unfamiliar with a cabin air filter at the do-it-for-me level because Arm & Hammer is a brand they already know and trust,” added Widden.
