SUBJECT: A "battery weak" message in the driver information system or a dead battery may be caused by high key-off current draw. A factory scan tool can help locate the current draw, and a battery history is also available through the factory scan tool, but the ultimate cause might be faulty battery management software. CHRYSLER: 2006 Jeep Commander with 4.7L engine
SUBJECT: A recall notice has been issued to address engine stalling in vehicles built through Jan. 10, 2006. Under certain driving conditions, the engine may stall without warning, which could cause a crash. The problem was addressed earlier with Service Bulletin 18-049-07, but Safety Recall H19 now supercedes that bulletin. The repair requires nothing more than reprogramming the PCM, and programming instructions using two different scan tools are included in the recall notice.

FORD: 2005-07 Five Hundred, Mercury Montego
SUBJECT: MIL illumination with P0106, P0109, P2111, P2112, P2072 and/or extended cranking time may be caused by a faulty MAP sensor vacuum connection. The vacuum line may be shoved too far into the connector, obstructing the line and causing inaccurate MAP sensor readings. The bulletin includes illustrations and instructions for repairing the connection and also calls for reprogramming the PCM.

GENERAL MOTORS: All 1982 and later models with 4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E or 4L70E automatic transmission
SUBJECT: No movement when shifted into drive or third, but normal operation when shifted into first, second or reverse might be caused by a faulty sprag clutch in the transmission. A new design sprag clutch (24241477) is available as a replacement part for all models. The transmission must be disassembled for repair, and the bulletin has no repair procedures. If debris from the old clutch is found, the bulletin specifies cleaning the valve body and flushing transmission cooler.

GENERAL MOTORS: 2004-08 Chevrolet Aveo with 1.6L DOHC engine
SUBJECT: Coolant leaks might be caused by the fan shroud rubbing on the radiator. When replacing the radiator, a strip of foam and a spacer washer should be installed to prevent the shroud from contacting the radiator. The bulletin includes illustrations and part numbers (there are four different radiators), but no repair instructions.

SUBJECT: A ticking or knocking noise from the rear of the engine or the transmission might be caused by a dust cover contacting the flex plate. In some cases the flex plate may be cracked. The ultimate cause may be damaged or improperly installed dowel pins that center the transmission on the engine block. In extreme cases, the block must be replaced. The bulletin includes diagnostic instructions and illustrations but no repair instructions.

SUBJECT: MIL illumination with P0170, P0173, P2097 or P2099 may be caused by faulty PCM software that turns off the oxygen sensor heater too early. Code P0461, which indicates a fuel level sensor problem, may also be present, but it should not turn on the MIL. However, the same software update will address that problem, too.
