INDUSTRY WEEKVolvo to Unveil Three
C30 Concepts at SEMA IRVINE, CA (Sept. 1, 2006) - Las Vegas is known for being the city full of surprises and risk, but even Sin City will be shocked to see what new tricks Volvo Cars will be unveiling at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. From Oct. 31 through Nov. 3, 2006, Volvo will showcase three highly modified C30s built by customizing specialists
Evolve, Monrovia, CA;
ipd, Portland, OR; and
Heico Sportiv, Frankfurt, Germany. Each car will be given a makeover that focuses on a variety of custom fabrications, including race-inspired engine enhancements, powerhouse audio-visual systems and eye-popping modifications to push the envelope. For four years, Volvo has displayed concept cars at the annual automotive aftermarket trade show. Here's what you'll see this year:
Evolve and Volvo have partnered to create several show cars over the years, and this year, Evolve's vehicle will have a strong emphasis on cutting-edge design and motorsports technology. Volvo asks, "What would happen if a Formula One car and Volvo C30 were put in a blender?" Find out at this year's
SEMA show.
Heico Sportiv's concept for this year's SEMA Show is a versatile, sporty interpretation of the C30. Built for the outdoor enthusiast, the Heico C30 features all-wheel drive while retaining Volvo's solid functionality in the snow and rain. The concept is part Paris-Dakar raider, part efficient weekend gear hauler, and part stylish, sporty performer, says Volvo. Heico is partnering Burlington, VT-based Burton Snowboards on this project.
ipd's recipe for this year's C30 SEMA Concept takes the European-spec 220-horsepower turbocharged powertrain and brings it to nearly 400 horsepower with software upgrades and a belt-driven supercharger. Add in a mobile electronics package conceived by Alpine and Apple with native i-Tunes technology, a fully adjustable coil over suspension and a big brake package. Wrap it all in a wild Swedish flag-themed paint and interior.
