Panoz Launches Driver’s EditionDesigned to provide more of a “pure sporting environment” for drivers, the new Esperante will feature a hand-built 390-horsepower, supercharged, intercooled, four-cam Ford SVT enginePanoz: the name brings to mind images of sleek open-wheel racers flying around curves at Le Mans. And now, a select few will have the chance to imagine themselves right in the middle of the race. Panoz Auto Developments and its sister operation Panoz Motor Sports have collaborated to create the Driver’s Edition of the Esperante.Debuted at last November’s SEMA show, only 20 of these special edition vehicles will be built – 10 each to commemorate the team’s leading drivers, Jan Magnussen and David Brabham. The drivers have provided direct input on the technical, aesthetic and ergonomic specifications of the cars, and they will hand sign them individually.Designed to provide more of a “pure sporting environment” for drivers, the new Esperante will feature a hand-built 390-horsepower, supercharged, intercooled, four-cam Ford SVT engine, assembled in Romeo, MI. Add in a six-speed Tremec T56 transmission, revised spring rates, adjusted rear suspension rocker ratios, carbon fiber super structures, carbon fiber rockers, a carbon fiber roof, an upgraded brake and rotor package, Electronic Traction Control and BBS wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, and result, from where we stand, looks like a lot of fun. Of course, with only 20 vehicles being produced – not to mention a starting price of     $116,765 – we don’t imagine there will be many of these showing up in your bays. At least, not until the three-year/36,000-mile warranty expires.
