EL DORADO , Kan – The next generation of collision repairers is doing far more than honing up their skills in classrooms. They're also plugging into the Internet and sharing their knowledge with others. Recently, students at Butler Community College posted a video on performing butt welds. The six-minute, detail-rich video features students demonstrating different techniques to complete a butt weld.
Instructor Donnie Smith noted, "This student demonstration is entirely a student led assignment. Each team used their textbooks, I-CAR training CDs and internet resources to produce this video. We're still in the learning process as these skills take many hours of practice to master."
"The students have accepted this challenge and are learning these skills with an enthusiastic approach, at an excelled rate, while in a contextual learning environment. The students are well on their way to becoming the 'top Performers' in the collision industry."
