WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has urged independent automotive repairers in Arizona to contact the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and their state legislators in response to the proposal of a Clean Car Program in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality published its proposed regulation aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars. However, the clean car standards proposed also contain warranty provisions that ASA believes will have a long-term negative effect on Arizona independent automotive repairers.

ASA believes that independent repairers will lose not only those vehicle repairs that are covered by the super warranty, but also the customer’s other repair items, possibly losing the customer permanently. ASA supports clean car programs, but believes they can exist and prosper in states without expanding or extending warranties at the expense of independent repair facilities.

ASA asks that all independent automotive repair professionals in Arizona contact the ADEQ and their state legislators and, at a minimum, urge the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to eliminate the super warranty provisions from the Clean Car Program. To view the proposed rule and to send a letter in opposition, visit ASA’s legislative Web site, www.TakingTheHill.com. The link can be found by clicking the “Legislative Alert Center.” Visit the “Current Alerts” link in the upper right corner of the page and then look under “State Legislative” and “Agency” to find the letters that can be sent via e-mail to the ADEQ and Arizona legislators.
