American Honda Launches Airbag Awareness Website

Dec. 17, 2012

Dec. 17, 2012—American Honda Motor Co. Inc. recently launched a new consumer-oriented website designed to increase awareness about the increasing use of counterfeit airbags.

The website, airbagaware.honda.com, features several informational pieces to educate consumers on the dangers of counterfeit airbags. It includes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) October 2012 Counterfeit Airbag Consumer Alert, stories of individuals who are facing criminal charges for selling counterfeit airbags, and a video that illustrates the deployment of counterfeit airbags compared to Honda Genuine airbags.

Honda said airbagaware.honda.com is a free-standing website, but will be connected to the company’s existing consumer website, collision.honda.com.

“Counterfeit airbags are a growing concern because of the potential danger they pose not only to Honda owners, but to the general public,” said Jim Roach, senior vice president of American Honda’s Parts and Service Division. “Every Honda owner should visit this new site to understand why they should demand that their collision-damaged car is properly and safely repaired.”

Honda will provide its dealers with Consumer Information Kits—including a small supply of kits for dealers to distribute to collision repair shops—to promote the new website and increase consumer awareness. Honda said collision repairers can also order additional Consumer Information Kits for free by contacting the company at 440.572.7266.
