Study: Baltimore tops list of dangerous cities for drivers

May 12, 2010

May 12, 2010—Baltimore is the nation’s most dangerous city for drivers, according to a study release_notesd Wednesday by insurance.com.

The study reviewed claim information—everything from fender benders to theft—from specific areas that had 500 or more claims in the past six months, to complete the rankings. (Alaska, Hawaii, New York and Massachusetts were not included in the study because insurance.com does not currently offer comparison quotes for those states.)

When generating a comparison quote from the site, 36.5 percent of drivers in Baltimore claimed a prior accident, whereas the safest city, Yuma, Ariz., it was 17.2 percent of drivers.

The top ten most dangerous cities are:

1. Baltimore, Md.
2. Johnstown, Pa.
3. Portland, Maine
4. Des Moines, Iowa
5. Erie, Pa.
6. Bangor, Maine
7. Birmingham, Ala.
8. Austin, Texas
9. Manchester, N.H.
10. Lincoln, Neb.
