September 30, 2010—American Honda Motor Co. announced its new alloy wheel recycling program.
Beginning Oct. 1, Honda will implement a core charge on all original replacement alloy wheels to its dealerships as an incentive to have the wheels recovered. The wheels will then be returned to Honda, melted down and reprocessed. The recycling does not apply to wheels purchased before Sept. 20, and steel wheels are excluded.
“This is definitely a further step in the right direction” said Bruce Smith, vice president of American Honda Parts Operations. “Recycling alloy wheels will save space in landfills, help prevent ground pollution, and allow the metal to be re-purposed—all good for our environment.”
