GEICO’s student poster and video contest promotes safe driving

Nov. 7, 2011

Nov. 7, 2011—GEICO recently announced it is calling on students to promote the importance of safe driving by entering the company’s 2011-2012 safety poster and video contest.

GEICO is inviting first through 12th-grade students nationwide to create hand-drawn or computer-generated posters that encourage safe driving situations. Students ages 14-18 can also submit videos that capture the importance of vehicle safety. Videos can be in the format of sketch comedy, music video, song performance, documentary, reality show or animation, according to GEICO.

Students can choose among three safety themes for the contest:

• The importance of wearing safety belts
• No texting while driving
• Staying focused to prevent distracted driving

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal traffic accidents compared to all other drivers. Not wearing seat belts, distracted driving and inexperience behind the wheel are the major contributors to teen-related crashes.

This year’s contest will feature 25 national winners who will receive a $250 cash prize. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 6.
