VW Pays $69M to Settle N.J. Emissions Suits

Nov. 15, 2017—Volkswagen agreed to pay $69 million to settle New Jersey state diesel emissions claims, according to a Reuters report. 

New Jersey’s attorney general and the automaker confirmed the cases had been settled in a court filing on Nov. 14.

New Jersey had previously said that VW could have faced maximum penalties of more than $1.2 billion in the state.

This comes days after a German financial watchdog organization was launching a new investigation against the automaker. 

Back in March, VW agreed to pay $157 million to settle environmental claims from 10 other states. 

This settlement with the 10 states required Volkswagen to offer at least three new electric vehicles in those states by 2020, including two SUVs.
