August 23, 2018—The State Farm Operations center in Southside is shutting down after more than 40 years in operation, reported Jacksonville Business Journal. Around 600 employees work at the facility, which is located in Jacksonville, Fla., according to the report.
Michal Brower, a spokeswoman with the company, said "some" positions will be moved to the company headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, or to centers in Dallas and Phoenix. Most of those employees work in billing and customer service.
At one point, the company had close to 1,200 workers at the facility. In March, State Farm closed multiple offices.
State Farm insurance agents will remain in Jacksonville.
According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the company said in an announcement that it made the decision to close the facility to "adapt to the rapidly changing needs and expectations" of customers, "leverage technology, and optimize available space" in its facilities. State Farm plans to exit the facility in 2019.
