Aug. 21, 2019—A Tesla Model S caught on fire recently while being in service at a Tesla-authorized body shop in Hangzhou, China, according to Electrek.
According to Tesla, the battery pack of the vehicle that started the fire was damaged and not properly handled at a third-party body shop. The Tesla vehicle that was on fire was on a lift and apparently being worked on before the shop closed for the night.
The company claims the battery pack had previously significant water damage and that it is blaming the third party-shop (not a Tesla service center) for not having handled the repair properly.
