Quincy Land, owner of Maaco in O’Fallon and Hazelwood Missouri, brings a wealth of experience to the franchise. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served 20 years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant in 2002. At 37, Quincy became a program manager for the Department of Defense, a position he held for 15 years, later becoming a director of operations for an IT company. In 2024, he retired but soon wanted a new challenge to occupy his time.
“I wasn't ready to stop working,” Quincy said. “I started looking for something to do, and I researched Maaco. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to start my own business and, most importantly, work with my son, Quincy (QDIV), who was just about to graduate college.”
Family is a key component of the Lands’ business approach, and they hope to sustain that approach as they continue to grow with Maaco and serve their customers. Beyond their own efforts, the unwavering support of Quincy’s wife and QDIV’s mother, Laura Land, has been instrumental in their journey. Her encouragement, wisdom, and dedication continuously inspire them to push forward and achieve success.
Fostering Culture
Given his positive experience with teamwork as a collegiate soccer player and the strong support system he found in his family, QDIV has made it his mission to implement those values in the shop.
“Being in a positive team environment and having a great culture here is very important to us,” QDIV said. “I truly believe building that culture is what helps us succeed.”
QDIV holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He excels at directing the O’Fallon shop’s procedures and working with customers and employees. To implement a strong team culture, QDIV believes in emphasizing positive communication.
“It's about being honest,” Quincy said. “If somebody has something that they need to tell me, they tell me, and then we go from there. We don't shy away from the truth. Because the only way we get better and grow together is if we're open, honest, and direct, but in a way where everyone can receive the information that's being passed along.”
In addition to open communication, Quincy upholds three rules in the shop: work hard, have fun, and take care of each other.
“If we do those things, then it helps to ensure that we're building a good culture and a good-spirited team,” Quincy said. “We don't shy away from correcting, but we try to do it in a manner that's always respectful, where people can receive what we're trying to say.”
Building a strong team culture has helped the O’Fallon shop’s success and has enabled the Land family to acquire a second location in Hazelwood, Missouri, in February.
Community Support Initiatives
Another reason for the Lands’ success is their emphasis on supporting others in the area.
“We want to ensure that we're giving back to the community,” Quincy said. “By reaching out to the people in our area, we can help out those who help us out.”
In 2025, the Lands plan to support a car show in May that gives back to wounded warriors.
“With my Marine Corps background, I’m big on supporting our people in uniform,” said Quincy. “I'm also big on Toys for Tots, and I'm anxious to get our shops involved with that. By reaching out to the community and participating in the different charitable events, we are giving back and encouraging others to do so as well.”
As the Lands look towards the future, they hope to eventually open a third location. By continuing to engage with their community, grow their team culture, and instill family values with Maaco, they hope to do it within the near future.
“The experiences that I've had so far with Maaco are nothing but positive,” Quincy said. “Maaco is just great people. If we have a problem, we feel comfortable bringing it up, and there's always someone to try to help resolve it or direct you to where you can get help. They don't just say, ‘Call this person.’ They really try to make sure that you're successful.”
