A class action lawsuit has been filed against State Farm over allegedly refusing to pay for repairs on luxury vehicles covered under their policies, Insurance Business reports.
The lawsuit was filed in Broward County, Florida, on May 18 after the owners of an electric 2022 Porsche Taycan that was insured for $100,000 suffered a collision in May 2022. After being referred to a local Porsche-certified collision shop by a Porsche dealership, they were given an estimate of $8,360.87 in repairs.
State Farm allegedly refused to cover the repairs, instead presenting their own estimate of $6,267.03 in damages. The insurance company would pay up to that amount, leaving the owners of the damaged vehicle to pay for the remainder out of their own pocket.
The vehicle owners initially filed a breach of contract complaint, but after lawyers found evidence suggesting that this has happened before to other vehicle owners, the complaint was retracted and a class action lawsuit was filed.
State Farm declined to comment on the incident when questioned by Law.com, but spokesperson Roszell Gadson stated that “the filing of a lawsuit does not substantiate the allegations within the complaint.”
