The National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program donated a vehicle each to two veterans in San Antonio, Texas, according to a press release.
The vehicles were given away as part of the Women’s Industry Network Conference at the San Antonio Westin River Walk hotel on May 1. The two recipients, Sequoyia Hurt and Vanessa Hernandez, were chosen by Grace After Fire and Soldiers’ Angels, respectively.
Hurt served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 2009 to 2017 and was given a 2017 Honda CR-V. She helps take care of her disabled husband and has four children. She and her husband are currently working to start a business from their home but lost their vehicle about a year ago to an accident. They have struggled to transport their family since then.
Hernandez served in the U.S. Army from 2008 to 2018 and received a 2017 Mazda CX-5. She is a single mother of three who previously struggled with homelessness. Not having transportation, she gets herself and her kids around by the bus. She hopes to gain a full-time job now that she has reliable transportation.
The vehicles were donated by USAA and repaired by Caliber Collision. This was the second year in a row the NABC presented Recycled Rides alongside the WIN conference.
