Insurance Adjuster Sentenced for Staging Collision Ring

An insurance adjuster has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison and ordered to pay nearly $700,000 in restitution to a half-dozen insurance companies for his role in an alleged staged auto collision ring.
June 15, 2018—An insurance adjuster pleaded guilty last Friday and sentenced to 10 years in state prison for his role in a staged auto collision ring, reported My News LA.
Erwin Raul Mejia, who was previously convicted of insurance fraud in 2005, pleaded guilty to 10 felony counts of insurance fraud in two separate cases, according to the report and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Mejia was also ordered to pay nearly $700,000 in restitution to a half-dozen insurance companies.
He worked for three of the six insurance companies he was ordered to pay to. According to the report, he played a role in a staged auto collision ring that obtained insurance policies with the intent to submit fraudulent bodily injury, vandalism and property damage claims.
He was one of 26 other people who were charged and allegedly involved in the ring.
