General Motors is giving nearly 800 workers at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant a seven-month reprieve.
Feb. 25, 2019—General Motors has announced it will not close the Detroit-Hamtramck plant for another 7 months, reported The Detroit Free Press.
GM said it will still indefinitely idle the plant, along with four other GM facilities in North America, including the Warren Transmission plant, as part of a broader restructuring move that GM announced on Nov. 26.
Detroit-Hamtramck was scheduled to idle in June but now the production of the Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac CT6 sedans will extend into Jan. 2020.
About 700 hourly and 75 salaried employees work at the Michigan plant in production of the CT6 and Impala, according to the report.
