Nov. 18, 2019—In the aftermath of a six-week long strike with General Motors and the UAW, some GM dealers are concerned about a lag in new deliveries, reported The Detroit News.
The UAW's national strike against GM shut down 55 facilities across the U.S., stopping production of parts and an estimated 300,000 new vehicles.
Some dealers are feeling the effects of parts delays more in the three weeks after the strike ended because their pipeline of parts has fizzled out. One example is Motor City Buick, according to the report. Motor City Buick GMC was thin on 2019 models because it was transitioning to the 2020s.
As a result, some of the dealership's new-vehicle sales people were moved to used sales. The business purchased 2019 rental cars it usually doesn't keep in stock to sell used. Overtime hours were reduced and part-time employees had their shifts cut.
