Jan. 22, 2018—Mitsubishi Electric recently announced that it has created camera technology which detects objects at lengthy distances. The artificial-intelligence system was designed with the goal of preventing accidents.
Mitsubishi Electric’s new system uses a computational visual-cognition setup that quickly focuses on regions within view. The technology can detect objects up to approximately 100 meters—as noted in a report by Engadget—and can significantly improve detection accuracy when compared to prior available technology, according to the company.
Mirrorless vehicles that instead use cameras have been approved for use in Japan and Europe since 2016.
