October 6, 2010—I-CAR announced on Wednesday that Porsche now requires I-CAR classroom training for technicians if repair shops are to be part of the “Porsche Approved Collision Center Program.”
To be approved technicians must take the I-CAR Steel GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Series, and the I-CAR Structural Parts Steel Welding Qualification Series, according to an I-CAR press release_notes.
Volkswagen also recently mandated a similar I-CAR training for shops to maintain the Volkswagen safety standards and specifications.
“With a strong background in some of today’s most commonly used materials and procedures, as well completion of two of I-CAR’s Welding Qualifications Series, technicians will be well-equipped to complete Porsche training and perform quality repairs on Porsche vehicles,” said Mike Kukavica, collision repair technology instructor.
