April 24, 2013

April 24, 2013—The Hartford has named John Kinney as chief claims officer and president of Heritage Holdings, the company announced this week.

In this role, Kinney will lead The Hartford’s property and casualty and group benefits claims operations.

“John’s extensive experience and high level of expertise will be instrumental as he looks to build upon the outstanding performance of our claims organization and confront many of the company’s most complex challenges,” said Doug Elliot, president of commercial markets for The Hartford. “Under John’s leadership, I am confident our claims team will be a differentiator for The Hartford and continue to provide customers with high-quality, compassionate service.”

Kinney, who joined The Hartford in 2003, most recently served as the company’s property and casualty field claims organization, and was responsible for workers’ compensation, automobile, property and general liability claims handling and claims customer support.

Prior to joining The Hartford, Kinney held various legal positions in the Travelers Companies’ specialty liability group, where he focused on the management of asbestos litigation.

Kinney holds a B.A. in political science from Fairfield University and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law.
