Bragging rights for creative prowess and ownership of an iPad 2 are at stake in a new contest from Continental that seeks to name the mascot of its emergency road service program for commercial truckers.

TrukFix “recently underwent a series of strategic enhancements that will provide better customer service, communication and reliability when commercial drivers need assistance,” according to marketing director Clif Armstrong.

Continental has partnered with an award-winning provider to handle the 24-hour, toll-free hotline, 877-TRUKFIX, which triggers a network of more than 1,000 commercial tire dealers and service outlets throughout the U.S. and Canada, Armstrong says.

As part of the enhanced service, the company recently conducted a three-month service capability verification for all the providers in its database.

Each emergency call is monitored and tracked through completion of the road service, and is now followed by a next-day contact to the dealer, Armstrong says.

Pricing to the fleet for these services is regulated, and convenient billing through Continental’s national account invoicing system means that company drivers don’t have to be responsible for cash or credit card reimbursements. There are no membership fees and enrollment is automatic for Continental truck tire national accounts.

“This free service for our national account customers is now better than ever. Not only do our customers have access via our website, the toll-free hotline and the Truck Tire Dealer Locator App for iPhone, but they also get peace of mind,” says Armstrong.

“With this launch we’re able to get them back on the road faster than ever before, and ensure that they receive regulated pricing on tires and related services,” he adds.

“Emergency road service should include the same amount of communication, the same amount of follow-through, and the same attention to detail as what you expect from your local truck tire dealer,” Armstrong points out “Our TrukFix program offers all this and is now better than ever.”

As part of the enhancement process, the company has chosen a character mascot, who will represent the TrukFix program at dealers, trade shows, events and for online communication. But the character is missing one key component – a name.

“We’re asking our customers to help us and show their creative side,” says Armstrong. The naming contest begins Feb. 6 and runs until Feb. 24. The winner of the iPad 2 will be announced in March; the new mascot is to be unveiled, and miniatures given away, at the March 22-24 Mid- America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
