Currie shot out to first place early on as the other drivers scrambled to close the gap but were unable to push past him. He didn’t give up his spot at the head of the pack for the entire 20-lap race, crossing the finish line to take the win.
“The TORC series is like home to me,” says Currie. “I’ve had such great support from General Tire and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
During Friday’s race, after one of the drivers lost control and flipped over, the yellow flag was waved and Currie and the other top two leaders were now bumper-to-bumper. After the restart, Currie pushed ahead and topped the podium for the second time of the weekend.
Having swept the TORC championship weekend at Crandon in 2010 for the series PRO Light title, Currie started racing motorcycles when he was just five-years-old and trucks at 16, taking home his first major win in 2003 – the championship title at the MDR series.
Up next for the TORC series are the Aug. 13-14 rounds 7 and 8 at Bark River Raceway in Michigan.
