Continental Tire the Americas is recalling 390,657 light
truck tires after reviews indicated these tires may
experience uneven wear, vibration – or particularly under
conditions of overloading or under-inflation in high ambient
temperature usage, separation between the belt edges –
potentially leading to a tread separation, according to the
company.
Most of the affected tires were installed as original
equipment on certain 2008 and 2009 model year Ford F-250 and
F-350 trucks. About 60,000 of the tires were sold in the
replacement market.
The tires met all Federal safety standards. However, they
did not meet Continental’s performance expectations in the
field, the company reports.
The tires were manufactured between May 2007 and September
2008 at the firm’s San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
Continental will notify owners of affected vehicles and make
available replacement tires free of charge.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
has been advised of the situation as the company begins
“intensive communication” with dealers, wholesalers and
customers who purchased the tires.
Consumers seeking more information, including instructions
for identifying the recalled tires, locating participating
dealers or general inquiries can go to www.continentaltire.com or call 888-799
