A winner has been declared in the "Guess the Pressure" contest
conducted by the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau
(TRIB) and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) at the
Technology & Maintenance Council's (TMC) Transportation
Technology Exhibition.
Using only a “thumper” technique, Lawrence Adams, president of
Sterling Transportation Services in Blair, Neb., achieved the
closest guess for the inflation of three retreaded tires on
display, managing to get within 20 psi of the correct
figure.
As a result, Adams has won a TIA Fleet Tire Service OSHA
Compliance Training Program worth $300. Each contestant who
entered received a free air gauge and a reminder that the only
accurate way to check pressure is with a properly calibrated
air gauge.
“Contestants’ guesses were all over the place, with many being
as far off as 30 psi per tire,” reports TRIB managing director
David Stevens. “But Lawrence clearly has a gift when it comes
to checking tire pressure, and TRIB congratulates him on being
the closest to the mark.”
“Improper air pressure is a major contributor to shortened tire
life, and it can have dire safety consequences,” notes TIA
Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield. “Thus it’s important
that the ‘gospel’ of correct tire pressure be spread as wide as
possible. That’s why we’re glad to be partnering with TRIB to
share this important message in such a fun way.”
